Do you find it strange that…

Posted on 21 Oct 2010 under Random

…sometimes, despite the fact that you have music playing, you feel like playing music?

Is it because the music you’re currently playing is not good enough? Is it because it’s too ambient to grab your attention? If you’re studying or meant to be doing something else, isn’t this kind of music ideal?

Hmm…

  1. I find that sometimes I need to listen to a particular song and until I hear it, I am restless.

A musical craving can be as strong as a craving for food, it seems.

  2. That happens a lot with me. What I find even more irritating is when I remember a PART of a song, but I can’t remember which song it is…then I have to go through so many songs to find the right one. :P

  3. I think that if you’re already listening to music and then feel that you want to listen to some music, the possibility is that the music that you’re already playing has been played so often that it’s in your subconscious mind. That could be why you don’t even realize it’s playing.

  4. That sounds logical.

  5. To the contrary, I don’t find it strange at all. For example, if I’m listening to or playing along with, say, an Allman Brothers tune, it seems totally logical that my mind would wander to another tune of the same genre. I might then feel like playing some Skynyrd or even Kenney Wayne Shepard. Blues leads to more blues…

  6. Hmm…that’s one way of looking at it. But what I was talking about was more like…”why isn’t there music playing?”

  7. I don’t see it strange, it’s just your inner drive and passion that makes you hungry to play music. Some things just can’t be explained.

  8. Sounds like some type of stimulus/response thing going on that might be hard to consciously understand…just something to go with I guess…never really thought about it until you brought it up.
