Things You Can’t Live Without
Posted on 01 Nov 2009 under Life, XLRI
When was the last time you filled out a questionnaire and one of the questions was “5 things you can’t live without”? How many times have you read someone else’s list and found a few clichés that seem to permeate a lot of lists…music, laptop, phone, etc.
On my list, I’ve often included some, if not all, of the following items:
- Some kind of writing apparatus
- Music
- Computer with internet
I think I’ve often neglected one thing that I maybe shouldn’t. Most of you probably know that one of the activities I most enjoy is playing video-games. I’ve written quite a few posts about games, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise at all, in my opinion.
Anyway. I was thinking about something today. Here at XLRI, I have a laptop whose keyboard I absolutely adore. It makes typing fun, and I enjoy writing on my laptop. Ever since I got my good speakers from home, listening to music (without having to depend on noise-isolating earphones all the time) has become a joy. The only thing missing is gaming.
My computer at home has a decent enough configuration, and is capable of running most games released recently. My laptop, on the other hand, is a completely different story. I wasn’t able to play NFS Underground (released in 2003) without freezing the frames (even on minimum graphics settings).
Subtly, what I’m trying to say is this:
I miss gaming.
And the worst part is that I don’t know when I’ll be able to get my hands on a respectable gaming apparatus. I’d love to buy an Xbox 360 (except for the MGS 4, the Xbox 360 seems to have a lot better games and is far more within financial reach than a PS3), but what would I do with a console without a television here in XLRI? I could go in for a hand-held—the Nintendo DS is as good an option as the Sony PSP—but will I have time to play video-games at XLRI? And why just XL? What happens next? What happens when I get a job
