The Bliss of Music on a Familiar Highway

Posted on 16 Sep 2009 under Journal/Life Updates

Yesterday, I had to drive to college to collect my marks memo and provisional degree certificate. Since no one else from college was available, I had to drive alone. It’s 50 km away, and it generally takes a bit over an hour to get there. Guess what? It was one of the best drives I’ve ever taken.

I say I had to drive alone, but I certainly did have company. I took my mp3 player with me. Can you imagine how awesome it is to drive down a highway at a comfortable speed, not having to make small talk with anyone, and just listening to music uninterrupted? Added to that experience was the nostalgia of driving down familiar roads, which have now been expanded to 6-lane highways, by the way. Pure awesome.

The experience in college was bittersweet though. I met a lot of my former lecturers, who were obviously happy and proud of my getting into XLRI, and talking to them felt good. What was pretty pathetic was that it took me about 4 hours to get my certificates. There is an unfortunate procedure which required me to get a “No dues” signature from 11 departments. 11 DEPARTMENTS! At some departments, the senior faculty refused to sign because it might have ruffled the feathers of the HOD. Oh, the red tape and the bureaucracy! Anyway, the good thing is that I had to drive back alone as well. So, the entire experience ended on a good note.

Ok, I don’t really have much else to add to make this post interesting. I have a cold and my brain’s not fully functional (is it ever?). I just wanted to share with you the goodness of music. I love it.
