The Survival Report: I Made It!
Posted on 21 Aug 2009 under XLRI
So, for my last post, I wrote about what I thought would be the three most demanding days of my life at XLRI so far. I also wrote that if I survived those, I’d survive anything. Well, here I am! And here’s the report on the last three days:
- I slept that night at about 1:30 AM, after trying in vain to keep myself awake and alert enough to write my Economics paper. That was when I realised one thing about myself…when it’s time to sleep, it’s time to sleep for me. I cannot keep myself awake any more than my body will let me.
- I woke up at about 6:30 AM the following morning and managed to finish whatever was left of the Economics paper. To be truthful, I think it helped that I did it in the morning after having got some sleep. I was sharper, and it was much easier to write. I was also quite happy with the final draft.
- I tried editing the video clips, but I just ended up spending time learning my way around Microsoft Movie Maker. Like I said…when you gotta go, you gotta go (to bed)!
The next day (the day with the six classes out of the six possible classes that can be held on any given day):
- Yes, there were really six classes. No, none of them got cancelled. Yes, I did attend every single one of them. No, I’m not kidding. Yes, it’s possible, and I’m living proof.
- I also attended the after-class special presentation that we were to attend, which went on until about 11:15 PM that night.
- However, one good thing did happen. One of our lecturers, who had the 9:00 AM class the next morning cancelled that class. Damnit! The entire point of this week being the big, tough test thing got diluted!
- Not only did he cancel the next day’s class, but he also let us off about half an hour early. Plenty of time to come back to the room, change clothes and have a plate of 2-minute noodles from the fast-food shop before the last class of the day.
- In the last class of the day as well, we were let off about fifteen minutes early. Like I said, the week just kept getting less and less harder.
- I did, however, finish compiling the videos for the OB presentation before sleeping. I slept late, because I knew that I could wake up a little late (remember the cancelled morning class). It was also my intention to wake up a little bit early and read a little bit of QT for the test. (If you remember, I mentioned that I had two tests that day.)
However, what really happened the next day:
- I didn’t read in the morning. I just woke up a little late, had a good breakfast and went to class for the OB presentation.
- I gave my presentation dressed in a T-shirt and dirty jeans! Don’t worry, it was intentional. We were presenting on “Impression Management”, and what better way of showing how one can cast the wrong first impression by dressing wrong for a formal presentation? Anyway, the presentation was quite fun…well, I had fun presenting anyhow.
- There was a “feel-good” factor that was residual of a good presentation. However, it didn’t last long. I did the first of the two tests fairly ok (considering that I hadn’t had the time to study at all for it, and I had to make “intelligent guesses” on a few questions)…
- …but I messed up the second test pretty bad. Actually, it was much tougher than I expected it to be. The rest of the day had routine classes, routine dinner, and routine bed.
Today:
- Today felt good! There were no submissions, no quizzes. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. The quiz that was originally scheduled for today was postponed by ma’am because she came to know of our horrendous week this week. So now, we have the test next week…what did I say about the toughness of the week getting a little diluted?
- I even managed to catch some light sleep after lunch today.
Anyway, it’s now 3:24 AM, according to the computer watch.
Bed time.
I made it
Oh wait, yeah, that reminds me of something. There’s this dude in my class (Himanshu) whose status on G Talk was “Bring it ON” during this week. Strangely, every time I saw it, it inspired me to feel the same way. BRING IT ON! And that’s precisely what the world did, but I was ready for it.
Gr8 goin ya…..
