A Tribute to Music
Posted on 23 Sep 2007 under Journal/Life Updates
It’s amazing how much you can say you love music, but still not really be aware of how much it really affects you. A few weeks back, my wonderful Sony MDR-21 Earphones conked out on me (as stated in a previous post). What a rude shock. The thing is that the design of those earphones is such that initially, they were really uncomfortable, and hurt my ears when I wore them for more than an hour at a stretch. But later, they became really comfortable as I learnt to put them in at the right angle, etc. During the last few months of use, they were so comfortable that I could leave them in my ears for the entire bus ride to and from college and not feel them in my ears.
The comfort level I reached with these earphones also translated to my using them while I did my chores at home (such as cleaning my room), or when doing homework (most of this “homework” consisted of simple lab record completion or assignments, the answers of which consisted of copying from class notes – don’t worry, I don’t listen to music when studying seriously).
I recently bought a pair of inexpensive Panasonic earphones which came with those removable sponge sound softeners. Of course, they didn’t sound nowhere near as good as the Sony earphones, but with the sponges, they didn’t sound half bad. However, as I feared I would at some point, I lost the sponge for the right earpiece. Since the sound would be horrible with only one earpiece getting better bass due to the sponge, I decided to take out the sponge for the left earpiece as well. This has robbed the earphones of a good bass sound, and makes a lot of my favourite songs sound quite shrill. The end result is that I avoid listening to songs off my MP3 Player now (a fact made sad by the fact that at one point of time of it was an integral part of my existence), and as a result of that, I’ve been much less inclined to do my chores at home. Oh joy.
Well, the good news it that a friend of mine recently ordered a pair of Sennheiser CX-300 for me (paid him, of course). His name is Tobias. We’re expecting the earphones to arrive in a few days. Once I get them, I’ll post again with the good news. Till then, as usual, watch this space.
Side Note: I realize I’ve not updated this blog in quite some time, but that’s partly because I’ve suddenly become a lot busier at college and also because my ISP is giving me problems with accessing my own site.
You can use proxy sites to access your site, it works that way.
And i’m going to enter this competition where you can win earphones… you should join. check it out at my blog. Its the second latest post.
Quite some members seem to have problems with it – I guess at least a few %. Maybe it’s because the old server still exists and has the domains setup. Let’s hope that once it’s removed (I guess tomorrow), it gets better.
That’s how I posted this entry
I’ll give it a shot, sure.
Certainly hope so! On a slightly positive note, I was able to access it this morning, and am currently replying without having to use a proxy (although it is really slow)
And I’m just testing comments editing..
I’ve disabled that plugin now… It’s giving some errors.
Uh oh I didn’t get to avail of it
Can we look forward to similar blog posts soon? Would love to read more reviews on earphones etc.

Well, I’ve only bought one pair of earphones. If you really want reviews, you could sponsor me, and I’ll buy and review all the earphones you want.
I had no idea that the sponge made a difference in the sound but now that I think of it, it does make sense.
Yeah, the sponge really does make a huge difference to the earphones’ sound indeed.
