CAT Coaching Begins

Posted on 06 Aug 2007 under Journal/Life Updates

So I finally enrolled for coaching for CAT (Common Admission Test), the admission test to get into an MBA course in one of the prestigious IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management), the best management schools in India. (There are totally 7 IIMs in various cities). I’ll be writing CAT in November, 2008, and since it’s one of the toughest exams in India, many people start taking extra coaching for it quite in advance of the actual test, just like they do for IIT-JEE (Indian Institutes of Technology - Joint Entrance Exam).

So anyway, I enrolled at Career Launcher for their weekend batch, i.e. 2 hours of class every Saturday and Sunday. I didn’t dare enroll for the weekday classes because it would put too much stress on me to keep up with CAT classes as well as daily college-work. I had my first class this past Sunday, and they welcomed us with … A TEST! They call it the “De-CAT” or something like that, and it’s basically for them to assess the strengths and weak-points of all new students so that they know where to concentrate harder on a particular student. It was a tough paper. I attempted 8 out of 25 in the Maths section, 18/25 in English, and about 11 or 13 in the Logical Reasoning and Data Analysis part. I don’t think I did it too well, but I’m hoping the coaching makes me much more comfortable… well, he’s to another year and a half of extra stress, hard work and college… God bless me.

PS: When I thought about writing this post, I thought about the many people I know who enroll for such kind of classes in secret, and never let the rest of the world know what they’re up to. I suppose it’s some form of superstitious belief that if others find out how much they’re studying, they’ll jinx it for them. Well, in that case, I’ve put my studies at risk here, but at least I’m honest and forthright. :)

  11. @Ami Ohayon: I’d love to say that it’s coming along great, but I wish I was doing more, and I wish it was coming along better.
