College Update

Posted on 13 Jul 2007 under College, Journal/Life Updates

So I realize I’ve not blogged in about 12 days. A good time to update you about the situation in college (basically, all other aspects of my life are the same old, so there’s nothing new to report).

As I said, most subjects still don’t particularly endear me to them. We do have good faculty for some (most) of the subjects though. We have the same lecturer who taught us EMTL (ElectroMagnetic waves & Transmission Lines) last semester teaching us LICA (Linear Integrated Circuit Analysis) this year. Our H.O.D (Head of Department) is teaching us AWP (Antenna and Wave Propagation), which is supposed to be a tough subject, but he’s done a good job so far. Either he’s a great teacher, or he’s just scratching the surface of what he should really be teaching us… hopefully the former!

We had a bit of “excitement” regarding a lecturer for DC (Digital Communications). Originally, we were supposed to get back our lecturer who taught us PTSP (Probability Theory & Stochastic Process) and CS (Control Systems) last year, but he’s got other commitments. So, we were assigned a new recruit, whose inexperience clearly showed. He appeared cocky, unable to handle students, and he taught more to the blackboard than to the class. We complained and got our faculty changed. We now have the same great lecturer who taught us AC (Analog Communication) last semester! YAY!

There may be more updates regarding avenues of life that have little or nothing to do with college, but that must wait until something solid comes out of it before I post it. :P (Tease, aren’t I?)

  1. Colleges the country over seem to dealing with stupid faculty. Mine is no exception. We go on strikes with problems like that ;)

  2. Dude, college is a bore. So is school. But you know what’s worse? Holidays? MEGA-BORE!

    btw, check out this contest.

    http://theprizeblog.com/2007/07/14/6-days-of-prizes-contest-from-the-prize-blog/

It’s pretty easy to enter and could win a lot of great stuff.

  3. bad faculty is something you are going to find everywhere. i don’t know about college yet, but a lot of my school teachers are terrible with their subjects. my maths teacher can’t tell the difference between sine and cosine graphs among other things. and i very proudly acclaim that i taught her differentiation and how monotonic functions work. yeah!

my english teacher spells ’separate’ as ’saparate’ and ‘philosopher’ as ‘philosophar’ and then argues about it. she shuts up only when someone shows her a dictionary. (once she even had the nerve to say that the dictionary had a misprint.)

be glad at least your teachers know the subject matter. and since you already got the professor you wanted, it’s a happy ending, isn’t it?

  4. We go on strikes with problems like that

I wish I could do that! If we go on a strike, the college management will have no second thoughts suspending the trouble-makers. Also, there’s no student unity among our students. No one will participate in rule-breaking for the general good.

Sahil, I’ll check out the thingy.. I’ll most likely make a post about how it’s a nice gimmick to get lots of traffic.

Nupur, you know you’re right. All’s well that ends well. So far, college has been well enough. As for your teachers, well, I can say that unless you’ve come across many many teachers like the ones you mentioned, you have not studied in India ;)

  5. Actually, all the 4 years in my college unite in times of trouble. We had 4 strikes in my first year itself. We even managed to change a couple of staff and also the catering service for the canteen. Good work I guess

  7. Good luck with AWP. I’m into ham rado, so we are always looking at that so as to get our signal further.

  8. Hello, you left a comment on my blog about a couple Swervedriver MP3’s that were no longer on the site. I occasionally remove older things to free up room and conserve bandwidth, however not too long ago I was forced to remove everything due to a crabby host that wasn’t delighted with all the files being hoseted on it. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve thrown those two MP3’s back up if you’d like them. They are two wonderful songs. If there is anything else that is not currently up on the blog that is of interest, feel free to ask.

Thanks for checking out the blog!

    Jonathan
