Exam Results : I should have done better
Posted on 18 Jun 2007 under College, Journal/Life Updates
“I should have done better” — big understatement.
“I’m disappointed” — bigger understatement (actually, it’s more like a lie because I’m not disappointed, I’m pretty pissed off at myself… actually pissed off at the correction standards this time)
I’ll get straight to the point, shall I? I got roughly 67%. Basically, that’s really really horrible for me. To some extent, I can offer a semblance of defense by saying that the correction was strict this time around, and that the average of most of the “ok-good” kids (academically, of course) is around 65%. The boy who topped the class last time (90%) got around 73% this time. C’est la vie. I’ve put it behind me now, and I’m “determined” to do much better now. (The reason I put that word in quote tags is because everytime I get marks lower than what I expected, I “determine” to do better, and still end up getting marks below what I expected… things have got to change. I hope they do this time.)
Here are the marks (you can compare them with the predictions I made earlier - before the exams and after the exams)
- Electrical Technology : 68% (Got the highest in this subject, as I had originally predicted)
- OOPS through Java : 59% (59%??!!! Gimme a freaking break!)
- Switching Theory and Logic Design : 65% (compared to my other marks, 65% is not bad in this subject, is it?)
- Electromagnetic Waves and Transmission Lines : 49% (I PASSED! I PASSED! WHEEEE!!!)
- Analog Communication : 62% (my subject indeed… but then again, I had stated that the paper was tough… so maybe 62 isn’t sooo bad)
- Control Systems : 60% (should have got more…. but that’s the general sentiment about all my marks)
Just in case you decide to be a smart ass and check up the average, you will end up with a number below my earlier stated 67%. The average is higehr because of the labs in which I got 73/75 and 66/75 in Analog Communication Lab and Electical Technology Lab respectively. Sad results
Must do better next time (here we go again)

(7 votes, average: 4 out of 5)
this kind of a thing does happen sometimes. as u said the correction was strict and everyone scored lesser this time around as compared to what they got earlier. so there’s nothing to get all worked up about this. there’s always a next time. and u’ve done really well in lab and that has really raised your percentage. so just chill n enjoy the vacation n do better in the next test. all the best!
Thanks
But you know… I seriously consider all this talk about the correction being strict and all to be nothing but excuses. Lots of people still got above 70-75%, so it’s possible to have got better marks.
Well come on 67% is not bad at all. Everyone has a dip once in a while and its better that you had it. It always inspires us to do better, and I am sure you will get better marks in the next semester.
Plus all the industry needs is 60%+ score all out.
Stuff like this happens all the time. The best thing you can do is just learn from it. For example i’m not happy with my grades either. So i have worked harder to make them better. Still not the greatest but it turned out better.
Personally, I wouldn’t be complaining about those results! It obviously depends on how competitive the industry is and how competitive your own yeargroup is, but marks above 60% are generally accepted as being very good. Where I come from, marks above 70% get you the highest possible grade - when you look at it that way, you’re only 3% off that… which is not bad at all!
In short, don’t talk yourself down. You’ve achieved excellent results and while they may not get you top in your class, they’re absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Quite the opposite.
Now go out and celebrate!
hi, can you please change the URL of Science Core(blogroll) to http://science-core.info ???
By the way…i think the marks are OK, considering the correction, and the toughness of the paper, etc…it will surely inspire you to do better next time.

Those aren’t bad marks!
I honestly understand you, and I can assure you that your grades will be way up next time.
Now cheer up, and enjoy your vacation!
Yeah well, I expected everyone to step up and say that 67% is not bad, but honestly, for me, it’s definitely not good. Will try to improve, at least for all of your sakes.
take it lyt buddy..
haha gurdit if you got a 67 here then i would be saying that you suck. That would mean you failed.
Thank you for the support…?
