Happy New Year (?)

What, really, is so special about the coming/starting of a new calendar year? It’s just another second’s worth of the earth’s rotation, and then your digital watch switches from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00 (and of course, the date changes). Apart from that, it’s all just the same. You wake up the next morning a little later than usual and with possibly a bit of a hangover from the party the night before. On Jan 2, you’re back to work/college/etc, and life comes back to normal, except that you get a bunch of “Happy New Year” greetings from all sorts of people… people whose names you don’t even remember or people you would normally not even have acknowledged seeing alive… it’s like everybody’s birthday on the same day. Everybody’s wishing everybody else. The atmosphere is festive (well, at least for a few minutes… and then you resume your daily rituals… and if you’re in my college, the rituals, lessons, are a good way to kill all festivities). Oh well…
People also tend to make a big deal out of the symbolic end of an year, and the beginning of a whole new one. A symbolic fresh start. Forget all your previous mistakes and start all over again, with fresh hope, and fresh spirits. It makes me wonder… what if we did this sort of thing at the end/beginning of every day rather than year…
- My New Day‘s resolution is to not fall asleep in class all day this day.
- I will forget about all the bad things that happened to me last day and will try to make this coming new day as positive, fruitful, and useful as I can…
- etc.
And I guarantee you that you will start having much better days once you start this daily ritual.
Then again, who cares if the whole New Year thing is a bit over-rated? An year is a much longer period to reflect upon than a day, and any reason for the stores and homes to light up and look beautiful at night is good enough for me. And let’s not forget the end-of-year special discounts, etc etc. Even if it doesn’t make sense to give someone a gift JUST FOR New Year’s, it does make sense to take advantage of the “Special Festive Season Discount” to buy yourself that new iPod that you’ve been waiting for the right time to buy, which is now suddenly available at 50% of its original price!
Hmm… with these thoughts, I leave you now, to go to bed. Tomorrow is the 2nd of January I mentioned previously… a good reason to go to sleep before 11pm
Good Night, all… and a Happy New Year.

Well, crap. It wasn’t empty before. Dumb thing. *mumbles* I went something along the lines of happy new day… and I liked your idea… Well, good enough!
Well really i think its just a reason for Humans to party. I mean its just another day in my mind. But its a fun but sad day. Its fun to be able to wake up and start a new year but it also reminds you that you have another day of school coming
I have no justification for why New Year’s is so special. IT just it, and yes it is a turnover. Why we don’t do that with days, weeks, months. idk. But it’s always fun to have a good party.
Sorry for the late response, but happy new year to you too.

I wrote two new entries please check them out
this time….there has been an extra second added……
so the transition time was 2 seconds….rather than 1 … so special in some way!!!!
I think people don’t realize how much power they have in their lives to shape their outlook. Forgetting bad things that happened yesterday is a good idea. I would add that it is better to forgive the bad things that happened to free oneself of all the junk that can accumulate.
My resolution is to be healthier…..so far so good!
My resolution is to live forever. So far, so good!
(Sorry, the last few words of your comment reminded me of that.)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! I wish this year will be successful for everyone.
