Red Sunday Night.

This post is a tribute to Michael Schumacher, 7 time world champion, who retired this past Sunday, driving home in 4th position in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
To be honest, I’ve been meaning to write this entry for the past 3 days, but I’ve just been thinking about how to present it. I mean, I don’t really know much about Schumacher’s history except perhaps some of his big moments in Formula 1. I don’t remember his biggest victories, I don’t remember his greatest overtaking moves, I don’t remember his best tactics… However, I do know that when I switch on the TV to watch a Formula 1 GP, I enjoy watching him drive the way only Schumacher can. I enjoy watching him set the track ablaze with those amazing in and out laps (during pit stops). I enjoy watching him overtake like the devil when he needs to.
Before the Brazilian GP started, I had given up expecting him to win his eighth title. That was that. And then I saw the results of Qualifying, and gave up hope too. My only intention for watching the race was to watch Schumi’s last race and to watch him hopefully drive like a maniac, which he did.
The weekend started fantastic… Ferrari were among the top during testing. In Qualifying, Schumi lost out due to an oil rig problem, dropping him to 10th on the grid. The race started fantastically though, with some great racing from Schumi. Unfortunately, an incident while trying to overtake Fisichella caused him to make an unexpected early pit-stop, dropping him down to 19th and last place. Now most people would think that this was the worst thing to have happened, in restrospect, I think it’s actually the best thing that could have happened to Schumi. He climbed from last place to end up 4th, and the drive was worth watching. He was easily the fastest driver on the track, and definitely the most exciting. I think it’s fitting that even in his last race, Schumi got a chance to race the way he’s supposed to race, and to entertain the millions of people who tuned in to watch, like he’s always done. His drive that race, in a way, was a tribute to the racing genius he was and maybe always will be.
Salutations, Michael Schumacher. Thanks for making F1 a pleasure to watch ![]()

Well all the crap abt Schumacher making F1 boring was proved wrong once again this Sunday. And I guess no one can deny the fact that the race was pretty bland if Schumi wouldnt have shown his skills.
ADIOS Schumi, We will miss ya.
Definitely.
It wasn’t Schumacher who made F1 boring… it’s not his fault he was better than everyone else
I remember this day every well myself. It is a shame that Schumacher retired since he truly was one of the best ever.
Although I do see it does make sense since one should retire when they are at the top of their game. It certainly makes for the eternal hero factor.
Great tribute post! Thanks for the cool memory lane trip.

@F 1 Online: You’re welcome. I still miss Schumi on the track
